Three years ago, in the small town of Yuma, Arizona, drag performer Amancio Corrales’ body was found floating in the Colorado River. He had been attacked and brutally murdered; his dream of becoming an entertainer in Vegas never realized. When the authorities let the investigation become a cold case, area resident Michael Baughman, who never knew Amancio, resolved to keep the story of this vicious hate crime alive. This documentary follows one man’s seemingly futile search for justice, the apathy of a small town, and the eventual disclosure of what happened that fateful night. Interviews with Amancio’s family and friends and a recounting of the investigation bring the conclusion of this case to an amazing end. – Rachel Popowcer

Lola not only has a hard time being punctual she also has difficulty committing to a woman. As usual, Lola is late, but this time she could lose it all. The talented photographer must get proofs to her most important client: her lover Casey. Vital to the future of their relationship and her work, Lola is off for a romp through the steep hills of San Francisco. Will she make it? En route she runs, hitches rides, bikes, jumps on the bus, dodges a meter maid and other obstacles (like gorgeous women and a nutty dog owner). This fast-paced, femme-filled romantic comedy inspired by art house classic RUN LOLA RUN will engross you with its beautiful cinematography, animation, still photography, and high-energy (and sexy) soundtrack -- all while highlighting the fun yet volatility of dyke culture. With stylistic storytelling, quick wit and perfect casting this feature takes the Sapphic romantic comedy and flips it on its ear. – Gina Diaz

Athena and Lilith want to have a baby, and they want to do it without a man. Traditional methods of lesbian pregnancy are unacceptable to Athena and Lilith as they willingly participate in an experimental process in which sperm is created of women’s stem cells. To add to the drama, the couple has agreed to be filmed by a documentary crew that becomes increasingly obtrusive to the point that it uncovers hidden family secrets, among them that Lilith is also pregnant! During the height of their 9-month journey to motherhood, a family get-together filled with conservative Canadian-Irish Catholics, alcoholic gay dads, and a closeted brother brings all the chaos to a hilarious yet tender head. Underneath this brilliant dead-pan mockumentary is a poignant look at the separation of church and state and the stem cell debate. Pregnant with humor and warmth, THE BABY FORMULA is a fresh take on what makes a family. – Jason Wilby
