Nathan, a shy and quiet high school boy, has moved to a new town. Nathan’s dad is a sleazy and violent drunk and his mother stands by, silently watching him crush Nathan’s spirit with his abuse. But Nathan has hiding places where he’s safe with his fantasies. Not the least of which is a crush on his blond-haired neighbor Roy, which quickly turns from daydreams to reality. The other boys can’t imagine why Roy hangs out with the sissy boy Nathan. The group plans a camping trip that turns from adventure to tragedy — it seems that one of Roy’s friends has a special interest in him.
Director James Bolton (THE GRAFITTI ARTIST) brings Jim Grimsley’s sexy and tragic novel about the relationship between two gay teenagers in the rural south in the late 70’s to life in this evocative teen romance filmed on location in rural Louisiana. —Jason Wilby |
